Gerenciamento Dinâmico de Energia em Redes de Sensores Sem Fio (Edital MCT/CNPq 15/2007 - Universal)

WIRELESS MPCCS (In Portuguese!)

Past projects:

Grid Management (AutoMan)

EEG: Empowering Education through Grids. Investigação de como explorar como grids computacionais podem alavancar a educação de alunos de graduação e pós-graduação, fornecendo ferramentas computacionais poderosas para colocar o aluno como sujeito de sua formação, possibilitando que ele aprenda fazendo.

Research topics for prospective students:

In the context of Mobile ad hoc networks, evaluate some of the most representative routing protocols considering realistic battery models. Most protocols (if not all of them!) have been evaluated using the linear battery model, which is shown to be far from reality. The evaluation process might help identifying better ways to handle some problems in a more energy efficient way!
This is a good project for those targeting a Master Degree!

  • Wireless Mesh Networks
  • Many things to do related to this topic :) Routing, Link layer, transport, applications, etc.

  • Evaluate Ad Hoc and Wireless Sensor Networks Simulators
    • There are many network simulators out there... but there are many questions laying around: "How faithful are the network models (e.g., physical, data link, routing, transport) implemented? How different network simulators compare to each other? And why sometimes they behave so differently (if that is the case:)?
    • This is a good graduate (master level) project!
  • Peer-to-Peer & MANETs
    • MANETs are P2P by default! This project focuses on how to deploy and improve P2P applications on top of MANETs.
    • Master level project.

  • Quality-of-Service (QoS) in Wireless Sensor Networks
    • Analyse Quality-of-Service (QoS) solutions for sensor networks through simulations. Based on the analysis, propose a novel solution to improve QoS in SN.
    • Master level project (but this project could lead to a PhD thesis!)
  •  Security in Wireless Networks
    • Evaluate security solutions, and tools, for wireless networks with special attention to open solutions  with free source code. Based on the evaluation, propose security architectures comprising different levels of network security.
    • Master level project.
  • Topology Control in Ad Hoc Networks based on more realistic models
    • Lots of previous work on topology control, and clustering, for MANETs consider the simple unit disk graph for modeling the wireless network.  This project aims at desiging new network models and apply them to the already known topology control mechanisms and evaluate how they fit the existing solutions. In a second stage, the student should propose novel topology control mechanisms based on the new network models.
    • Master level project (but this project could lead to a PhD thesis!)
  • Security in MANETs
    • This work is related to the previous topic on "security in wireless network", but in this case we are more interested on security in ad hoc networks.
    • Master level project.
  • Multi-Channel Muticasting in Ad Hoc Networks
    • This project explores multicasting in the context of multi-channels. Evaluate existing solutions and propose a new one.
    • Master level project.
  • Cellular Automata & Ad Hoc networks
    • What do cellular automata and ad hoc networks have in common? You'll have to tell me... and then we can talk how to better explore it...
    • Master level project (but this project could lead to a PhD thesis!)
